Green Garden Principal's Message

A Message from Principal Hiller...      Wilton Center 003.jpg

Thank you for taking a moment to visit our website to learn more about Green Garden Elementary School. Our school educates approximately 150 students in Kindergarten through fourth grade and is a great place for students to learn and grow both academically and socially in a fun and safe setting. We are proud of the excellence, passion and commitment of our 28 full and part-time teaching and support staff.  As a community of teachers, support staff, students and parents, we are all working together to continue the excellence at Green Garden Elementary!

We believe that students learn best by doing and that students should be involved in some of the planning of the school's events. We have three student leadership committees in place who are involved in the planning and implementation of activities throughout the year that will help to bring an awareness of the world outside of our school to our students.  With awareness, it is our hope, comes understanding and a desire to help make the world a better place. The three teams each have a different focus:  Community Service, Recycling & the Environment and School Spirit.  Students from every classroom are a part of the planning and implementing of programs and activities throughout the school year.

We are blessed with a generous and very active PTO who work closely with the staff to bring a variety of educational and social events to our students. Through generous donations from our PTO, we have been able to purchase document cameras to work alongside our SMARTBoards, taking them to a new level by allowing images to be projected onto the screen.   Worksheets, science experiments and demonstrations can be viewed on the big screen so that all students have a "front row seat"!  This year, we were able to purchase two sets of interactive responders (clickers) for students to use with the SMARTBoards and three iPads for each classroom. The interactive responder devices allow teachers to get an immediate response from the classroom while students love using this gameshow technology! The iPads are used to provide interventions and support to the curriculum.

While each of these activities enhance the learning environment for our students, our number one priority is to provide a quality education for our students in a safe and nurturing environment.  Student achievement is our goal and it is through a collaborative effort between our teachers, support staff, district personnel, parents and community that we are able to accomplish that! Green Garden Elementary was recognized by the State of Illinois this year for Academic Excellence for three or more consective years of high ISAT test scores.  This recognition is a reflection of the dedication of the staff and parents of our school community.

I am pleased to announce that for the second year, we offer Reading Recovery to our first grade students who need one on one instruction.  Our reading improvement program is still in place where the curriculum includes Wilson Fundations, Wilson Just Words, the Wilson Reading System and Read Naturally.  We continue to test all of our students three times a year using AimsWeb.  These tests are administered as part of our district Response to Intervention (RtI) plan.  In addition to reading support, Music, Art, Physical Education and Computer Instruction are also part of our curriculum.

Additionally, to supplement our curriculum, we offer after-school programs of professional basketball instruction, tumbling, chess and art.

Please call or email to make an appointment to visit us – we are proud of our students and our school! Open communication is essential to the success of our students and ultimately, our school.

Working together, we can achieve extraordinary feats!

Best Regards,
Mrs. Tracy Hiller, Principal
