National Honor Society
 Brief description of club/activity: The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding junior and senior high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor well-rounded students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Character, Leadership, Scholarship and Service.
Eligibility Requirements: 4.5 cumulative G.P.A. and approval by the NHS Faculty Council.
Time Commitment: Must maintain a cumulative 4.5 G.P.A., attend meetings and activities and complete 15 hours of approved community service each school year.
Meets: Meetings are held on Fridays during the school year at 7:45 a.m. in the Media Center.
Fees: $20 activity fee that is mandated by District 207-U. This money is due at the beginning of each school year.
Procedure for Joining: Any junior or senior who has a 4.5 cumulative G.P.A. at the beginning of the academic school year will receive an application to apply. The application for NHS focuses on the areas of Character, Leadership, Scholarship and Service. Each application that is submitted is reviewed and then given a score in the categories of Character, Leadership, Scholarship and Service by the faculty of PHS. Each candidate’s scores are calculated and then given an overall score. A smaller group of faculty members known as the NHS Faculty Council meets to review each candidate’s application and overall score. The NHS Faculty Council then votes. The
candidate will be notified by mail of his/her acceptance or rejection into NHS.
