Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Common Plan early release and School Improvement early release?
A Common Plan release time is at 12:25 and students would require a lunch here at school.
A School Improvement Day's release time is 11:00 and students would not eat lunch at school.
What is the length of our school day?
The student day begins with the tardy bell at 7:45 A.M. and ends with the buses departing at 2:25 P.M. Students are permitted to enter the building at 7:30. As of the 2011-2012 school year, all elementary schools in the district meet for the same number of minutes each day.
What are the hours of the school office?
The school office is open Monday-Friday from 7:15 A.M. until 3:15 P.M.
What is the Late Start Procedure?
When the Superintendent determines that a later start would allow for safer transportation of our students by allowing roads to be cleared or weather conditions to improve, a Schoolreach message will go out to all families, just as for a school closing, that would announce that Peotone 207U Schools will go to the Late Start Procedure. All schools will start 2 hours later than normal. For Wilton Center Elementary, this would mean a 9:45 A.M. start. Buses would run 2 hours later, as well. So, a student who is normally picked up at 7:20 A.M. will be picked up at 9:20 A.M. instead. School dismissal times will remain the same on Late Start days.
What do I need to do if my child will be absent?
A parent needs to call in the absence to the school office by 9:00 A.M. and give the reason for the absence. Please indicate if you would like homework to be sent home or if it will be picked up. If a student is absent for 3 days, a doctor's note is needed to return to school.
When does my child eat lunch?
This year, the lunch schedule is as follows:
Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade eat at 11:20
3rd and 4th Grade eat at 12:10.
What do I need to do if I need to pick my child up early from school?
If the after school transportation will vary from the normal routine, a note needs to be submitted to the office prior to that afternoon stating 1) the child will be picked up and 2) by whom, if other than the parent. 3) the time to be picked up and 4) the reason for the early departure.
What do I need to do if I am picking my child up after school?
If the after school transportation will vary from the normal routine, a note needs to be submitted to the office prior to that afternoon stating 1) the child will be picked up and 2) by whom, if other than the parent.
Can my child ride a different bus home from school?
Except in the case of an emergency, students must ride their assigned buses home. If the after school transportation arrangements have changed due to child care, for example, please contact Barb Rizzo, Transportation Director, at 708-258-9605 to make new arrangements.
Do I need to contact Transportation if someone dfferent is meeting my child after school?
Yes! The bus driver will not release a child if they do not recognize the person meeting the bus. Please contact Barb Rizzo, Transportation Director, at 708-258-9605 to notify of any changes.
My family is planning a vacation while school is in session. Can the teacher send homework with my child?
School attendance is very important and vacations during the school year are strongly discouraged. Teachers will provide work to the student upon return to school and the student will have sufficient time to turn in all assignments.
